I'm currently experimenting with Xubuntu and the final hurdle to overcome before I can adopt it on all my machines is dropbox integration. A search of the dropbox forums turned up some excellent...
Great advice, thank you!
I spent a while today installing and looking around Xubuntu in a virtual machine and I think it'll meet all my needs when it's time to upgrade. Thunar was the only area I...
Alright, so after a long time of just tolerating this I stumbled upon the answer investigating something else entirely. Often the way! I'll leave the solution here in case anyone happens across the...
I'm another Unity refugee considering his options for when 12.04 hits and want to clarify something here:
If I only install the xfce4 package instead of xubuntu-desktop, do I avoid installing all...
No suggestions on this one? Hoping someone has an idea of where to begin!
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid on a Lenovo G550 laptop which has a GeForce G210M graphics card, and I'm using the proprietary nVidia driver. My ubuntu/driver installations have not changed in about a...
Thanks for the pointers guys, but virtualbox has still given me no joy and remaking the live USB with some space for persistant storage so I could install graphics drivers didn't get me any further...
This certainly sheds some light on things; I don't think I had any space reserved on the USB stick for persistent storage so even if I could find a hardware driver to download and install a reboot...
I thought I'd tried that but can't be sure so I'm reinstalling on the guest now (yeah, I wiped it when it all looked like it wasn't going to play nice). I've made sure to check that box and assign as...
Yeah, I have a connection and I've enabled the necessay repos. Will take a look at the link when I can and let you know, cheers!
I did wonder if drivers were the problem; on checking the system admin menu it didn't offer any. Why might that be?
I'll admit I've not been that keen on the look of Unity from the outset, but I want to give it a fair shout before deciding whether it's my thing. Unfortunately the current version of virtualbox...
I've solved all these problems now except the lengthened boot time; it seems using synaptic to remove games has the potential to remove files needed for optimal video/audio performance. Strange as...
Just used this guide to fix the mysterious lack of audio on a fresh 10.04 installation on the Eee 901 - a thousand thank yous!
Hi, I've just reinstalled 10.04 on my Eee 901 and noticed that performance has taken a hit since the last installation. There are three main issues that I think might all be related:
The boot...
Thank you for taking the time to help. Sadly though as I dug through the links and read up on test disk it soon became clear that reinstalling both OS from scratch was going to be quicker than trying...
...And issues I did indeed run in to :(
Moving and resizing sda6 was no trouble, but on trying to move sda5 (swap I believe) the process failed saying "invalid partition table on /dev/sda -- wrong...
Some very detailed responses here, thank you very much everyone! Sounds like quite a job so I'll start it when I have plenty of time to devote to it and come back if I run in to any issues.
Thanks!
As a follow-up question, what in that output points to whether I can reallocate the drive space?
Output of the command:
Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders, total 976773168 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size...
Hi all. I'm running a dual-boot system and foolishly gave Windows 7 little space on the disk. Given that my Ubuntu installation has enormous amounts of unused drive space, I wondered if there was a...
Sounds like it might be a little under the spec you're looking for, but I've had no trouble at all with my Lenovo G550. Intel Core 2 Duo CPU (2.2GHz), 4GB DDR3 RAM and nVidia G210M graphics (512MB)....
This worked for me too, thank you so much! 1024x768, 24 bit colour depth looks gorgeous.
Just in case it's not obvious to anyone else trying to fix this issue, grab startup-manager from the repo....
10.10's about the same as 10.04 for me, and the new font and polish to ambience and radiance are very welcome.
I do have an ugly as sin boot screen though; purple background with garbled, plain...
