Tiny beep sound

Hello

Now Ubuntu 9.10 is installed and working, except form a tiny almost constant beeping sound coming from my laptop. Like a high frequency sound.

The sound also appear while running Win XP on battery, but not if i have a USB device plugged in (USB trick doesn't work in Ubuntu) . And is coming from the USB-port area (from the right corner near me at the laptop, not from the speakers). I think the sound disappear when the computer is working (for instance opening a program or copying large files).

Laptop: Acer Travelmate 2420 with Intel Pentium M Centrino 1,7 GHz (Intel 910GML Express) with 1 GB of RAM (DDR2).

Is there any settings or tricks I can try to remove the sound?

Re: Tiny beep sound

Hm.... Strange. If I open a audio file with VLC Player and then click pause, the sound disappear, but if I close VLC the beeping continues.

Re: Tiny beep sound

I have the same problem here. Upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10, everything went flawless except the weird sound.

Soundcard is onboard the Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H using the AMD 780G chipset connected on audio amplifier.
Also notice a weird sound sometimes, like I power on the speakers.

any idea´s?
