Sager NP9280 intel N6300 WiFi Ubuntu 9.10 no WiFi

    Hello,
New to these forums and new to Ubuntu. I posted yesterday in the general forums before I realized there was a specific section for Wifi.

Installed ubuntu 9.10 dual boot with win7 yesterday. Everything working but Wifi. Wifi works fine with Win7. No Wifi in Ubuntu. Very confused. I have info from the wifi trouble ticket post.

There does not seem to be a driver for this card anywhere.

Re: Sager NP9280 intel N6300 WiFi Ubuntu 9.10 no WiFi

We are wondering why, if not by the wireless switch, your wireless card is disabled. Network Manager, which is installed by default, will use the wired interface in preference to wireless, if it's available but I notice link=no in your lshw. Let's look a little deeper. The kernel keeps boot and other messages in a file called dmesg. Let's read it and look for messages only with iwlagn or wlan0 in them. In a terminal, please do:
    Code:
    dmesg | grep -e iwlagn -e wlan0
Post the result and we hope we will find a clue.

Ok so I did the apt get. In the Grub screen I now get the choice of:

    2.6.31-19-gen
    2.6.31-19 gen rec
    2.6.31-14 gen
    2.6.31-14 gen rec

I can boot into -14 just fine but when I go to 2.6.31-19 gen the screen flickers and is asking for a login and pass word. This does not happen in -14. I am not sure what the login and password is.

Re: Sager NP9280 intel N6300 WiFi Ubuntu 9.10 no WiFi

    Please try:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.31-19-generic
    sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-backports-modules-karmic-generic
    sudo apt-get update
Now, does it install without these issues?

Can you boot into -19? Does the wireless work?
